We are very proud to announce that we have released full native support for Windows Phone. Windows Mobile devices based in previous versions of the operating system (6.x) are supported as well. It has got most of the features of Nulaz, and they are optimized for Windows Phone.
Very soon this version will also be available in their Marketplace. Until then, you can just download the version from our website. Just go with your phone to www.nulaz.net and we’ll take care of the rest from there.
This week we have been participating in the Vodafone Widget Development Camp, here in Amsterdam. It was a great chance to know the details about this new exciting technology, meet a lot of cool people, and of course, have the chance to win one of the beautiful Samsung’s H1 that Vodafone is kindly giving away to the best 5 widgets of the competition.
A widget, in few words, is a web application that runs on a mobile phone. There is an extensive API available, known as JIL, which let developers access to a lot of phone capabilities, such as GPS, camara, accelerometer or even contacts or agenda. The biggest advantage of a widget is their device compatibility. This means that if you want to develop a mobile app that works in all devices, is not necessary anymore to build different native applications for Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile… Instead, you could hack a HTML/Javascript widget, and you’re done! Widgets are really powerful tools and in the future we hope that everybody will use them, as the most important names of the mobile industry are supporting this technology and promoting a massive implementation.
We developed 2 widgets for the competition: The well-known SMSMyPosition and the widget version of a new service we are unveiling these days, called Nowntown. It’s going to be hard to win, as the level of the other participants was pretty high. Congratulations, guys!
We want to thank Vodafone for the nice office space they provided to the participants, the impressive technical support during the Camp, the thoughtful talk of Peter-Paul Koch on the second day and of course, the free drinks and the massages (!). We will be there the next time!
As you know already we have spent a lot of time and effort in developing Nulaz, making it a better service and connecting people from all around the world. Sometimes it was easy and fun, other times it was quite hard and demanding. But there are certain milestones that when achieved make all this investment worth. And we achieved a big one.
So, what are you waiting for joining our community, making friends and finding cool places? We do all the hard work for you, and you get it for free. Could there be a better Christmas present than Nulaz? Hard to find I would say.
Every Friday in the evening, we think it’s time to pop a beer and throw our legs on the table. However, right at that moment our poor servers need to do overtime. For some reason, our users are massively swarming online: connecting, chatting, and publicly sharing their location. It seems that the Friday evening conveys a universal behavior: get out there and meet interesting people!
Great news from Apple. Our cool Nulaz Augmented Reality version is now in the App Store – Hooray! Finally you can enjoy all the power of the iPhone 3GS in your favourite application. As mentioned in previous posts, the review on iPhoneclub and their announcement of the app, this version brings you a totally new concept.
The traditional map includes a new option (AR), which opens your phone’s camera and displays all the places and people around you based on the distance and direction. It feels just like your vision was enhanced with all the information around you.
Forget about spending time orienting yourself and the map in the right position to find places. Nulaz AR does it for you. And even more: it guides you to the place you select, using the phone’s compass. You just need to follow the direction of an arrow, that’s it. Nothing else! Now there is no excuse for getting lost.
What is more, with this version you get premium content from WCities for 250 cities worldwide as well, and all for only € 1,59!
Mmmm, Koosje Cafe….It’s close, but where?…Aha! Here it is!
SMS your address in two clicks. You will get a message with an address and a link to a map:
From: Michiel
Message: “Hello, I am at Plantage Kerklaan 25, 1018 Amsterdam. Click on the link to see my position on the map: http://is.gd/543rx“
The mobile phone has two killer applications: making a call and sending an SMS (text message). According to all analysts, location based services (including Nulaz) have been in pole position for becoming the next killer application for many years now. However promising they might be, they haven’t reached mass market yet. Why? It’s a complicated story. That’s why we decided to break it down to something that everybody receives and everybody understands: SMS and Address.
We’ve just added some nice event content to our service. Fire up your Nulaz application and check out which concerts and events will be held around you.
A while ago, the law in Germany around location based mobile services changed. Due to the changes, it’s not allowed anymore to show your location to other users, unless you have given your WRITTEN consent to the service provider. So, if you want to use Nulaz in Germany, you have to write us a letter. We had a lot of problems with this, and our service in Germany (which is connected to all the operators for location) has become pretty lame because of it. This also means that all locations based services that can be used in Germany are breaking the law, including Google’s Lattitude.
If this law would be generally applied and your little brother would ask you to tell your mother where she should pick him up, you would have to tell him to write you a letter with his written consent to give his location information to a third party.
The fun part of this sage is that we have actually received a letter, which we have framed and has got a special place in our office.
